Chapter Thirty-One: The Otome Game’s Footsteps can be Heard (Part VII)
The surprises continued.
“Actually, in the world I used to live in, there was a story that depicted a world very similar to this one. In that story, Princess Annelier had the role of a villainess.”
The things I’ve never said to anyone before were coming out of Aya’s mouth… My heart was beating loudly with every word she said.
That means we’re from the same world; we were both from Japan…
Huh?
But why was she so sure that my summoning wasn’t the work of the original witch responsible for hers…
“And another thing. In the world I was in, there’s a law in my world where souls from our world are sent to the villainess of another world to become part of the story and be reincarnated.”
Eh?
Ehhh…?
There was such a law like that!?
No, there were popular novels and manga where the villainess gets reincarnated with a different soul, but weren’t those works of fiction…?
“So, I’m sure Annelier-sama is like that! I’m sure she was reincarnated as the villainess from the very beginning!”
I was taken aback by Aya’s insistence.
Per, perhaps, Aya-san, you’re from a similar but different world than I was in…?
Lucian-sensei, who was sitting across from me and was next to Aya-san, was staring at her as she spoke, as if this was the first time he had heard any of this.
As I glanced at our surroundings, everyone except Vint had a doubtful expression on their faces.
Well, in the first place… They don’t know what a villainess was.
“Heh, so there’s such a law. I haven’t heard about that here, so maybe it’s something unique to your world.”
Vint was the only one with a twinkle in his eyes.
He was full of curiosity and had a child-like personality… His personality was similar to one Vint had in the otome game.
“It’s interesting to hear stories local only to different worlds. There are times when the people here unconsciously have strange ideas, as if they’re peering into other worlds. Like how that original witch your body belonged to was able to use magic that interfered with the other worlds. Now I’m wondering if other people in this world are capable of doing the same.”
And just like that, I was completely convinced by Vint’s words.
It was silly to think about which came first.
At least, Aya-san, who was called over here from her own world, could have the option to go back.
There may be other people like us.
It’s more natural to think that the people involved were the reason for the creation of the game, rather than to believe that this world was based on a game.
“Hey, hey, in that story, if Annelier was there, was there Reinhardt there too?”
“He was there.”
“He was!”
Vint’s interest had shifted from me to the storyline… Of the otome game.
No, Aya-san didn’t say it was an otome game, but it should be an otome game, right…?
“I was there too?”
“You were there.”
“I was there too!”
“Yes. I don’t know what the story’s main character is doing now, but it was a woman named Mia.”
When the main character’s name came out of Aya-san’s mouth, the air around me seemed to freeze still.
“…I see…”
“So, it was Mia… I see.”
“Really. So that’s why Annelier was referred to as the villainess.”
However, it only lasted for a moment. Aya-san, who may not have known what happened to Mia, who was the main character of the game, her knowing wouldn’t have gone over well.
And it seemed that Aya-san’s claims were given credibility as she was able to mention Mia, the main character’s name, who wasn’t well-known in the world as she was positioned in the shadows.
After all, Aya-san was telling a story I already knew of.
…But then, does that mean that the world that Aya-san and I were in was the same…?
I had no idea that someone reincarnating as a villainess was something that happened back in our world…?
No, no, such a law wouldn’t have been possible.
“If her words ring true, then that would mean Annelier has had an otherworldly soul from the very beginning.”
“I guess the reason you were saved from that incident was because of your divine protection. Perhaps the soul had to return to its original state in order for your blessing to manifest.”
When I felt like I was alone in my confusion, the conversation was coming to a conclusion with me, making me lose patience.
“So, it is.”
Somehow, it wasn’t just Vint, but both Reinhardt-sama and Lucian-sensei were also trying to accept that I was just reincarnated as a villainess… What would that even mean?
…
That’s right, something like that…
If I had no clue about the laws of other worlds, and if someone actually from another world testified that that was how things were, then there are only two choices: to believe or not to believe.
Eh, then, does that mean since I was born, I was already reincarnated to be a villainess?
But that, is that really true?
“It would certainly seem that the recent events in this world and of that of what the young witch match. If there is such a law as a soul of a person from another world being sent to a specific body, then it would be likely that that’d point to Annelier.”
“Maybe we need some kind of starting point to peek into how the story was written out. It’s a bit of an odd rule, but maybe the strong divine spirits of that world are capable of doing things like that.”
Everyone was beginning to talk in that direction.
Somehow, I felt like my world was being misunderstood…!
When I looked at Aya-san, I felt like she was looking down for some reason… It seemed like she was doing a fist pump.
Eh, a fist pump?
The face of a former professional boxer flashed through my mind.
“Bottom line is, it’s safe to assume that the witch who originally resided in that lady over there… Wasn’t the one who did it.”
Right then, I was taken aback.
Why would Aya-san say that being reincarnated into a villainess was a law of our world?
Ho…
She’s doing this to save herself—!
“That…”
I felt like if I didn’t interrupt now, I would never be able to interrupt them again.
“In the world where I came from…”
“—What is it, Annelier?”
Then a hand reached out from the side, grabbed my chin, and pulled me closer, his finger stroking my lips…
“…No, it’s nothing.”
The Reinhardt-sama that was holding my chin in place. He became scary, after all.
