Chapter Thirty-Three: Young Reinhardt’s Blunder (Part I)
“So, you finally got your hands on that girl (Mia)?”
The guardian spirit, Vint, was capricious and only appeared occasionally in front of the Cress Royal Family, to who he was supposed to be giving his protection to.
However, the reason why he often appeared in front of me may be because he was worried about the family’s lineage.
When I was coming close to becoming an adult, the people around me persuaded my father to produce a younger brother for me, and I know that Vint also had a hand in it.
“That’s right.”
He probably thinks that I’m incapable of having a child.
My younger brother was still young, so he couldn’t directly threaten my position, but if I could not give birth to a child, the people around me would surely try to eliminate me while lifting my brother up.
The elimination of the superior heir to the throne meant death.
It was not mere paranoia but a natural move to protect the continuation of our country where the Royal blood was blessed with the protection of guardian spirits and beasts.
This is because the blessings don’t just protect the Royal family but also the country they rule over for as long as they last.
Even with the protection of the divine spirits and beasts, if there were abandoned, then the blessings would stop working… That means those unable to produce children to inherit the position will be abandoned.
Even the collateral descendants, those who protect the blessings passed down through our blood, fear that the direct line might cease to exist.
That’s because the blessings were stronger in the direct lineage while it was gradually weakening in those of the collateral family.
If one were to investigate the Royal family’s history, similar stories could be found.
“Are you relieved?”
The sarcasm dripping from the words that came out of my mouth made me feel awkward.
They’re only concerned about my sexual disposition.
I lust for a woman who’s shy yet cries in shame and debauchery.
I want to humiliate them in the most excessive manner possible.
I find pleasure and joy in how she’d fall from grace while giving in to greed.
It was suspected that I could not fulfill my duties in the middle of my sexual education course. However, I realized that I could be lustful, too, albeit only in limited circumstances. Because of that, the danger of disinheritance was put on hold.
“Don’t be so mean to her. She’s… A little… However, it’s good that you found someone who can keep up with your hobby. Even though Reinhardt’s a serious guy, but with a hobby like that, I was wondering what to do if you couldn’t find a partner.”
“I thought I already told you I wouldn’t refuse to marry. And that I’ll fulfill my duties.”
From my point of view, marriage was an obligation.
I’ve always said that I would fulfill my obligations.
Vint then responded by saying, “That’s right. And that duty can’t be fulfilled unless you can get an erection.”
His expression reflected a tinge of bitterness as he said that; it was counter-intuitive to his actual emotions.
“It’s also an obligation for the person that marries me, so I want Annelier to fulfill her duty as well. After we get married, she will have to keep up with my hobbies.”
The Busterman family won the power struggle among the nobles, so recently their daughter, Annelier, became my fiancée.
It was a gamble getting me to marry their daughter, but it wasn’t a very bad one, considering I was willing to do my basic duties.
If we can marry and produce an heir carrying my blood, then I would have officially fulfilled half of my duties as a king, and that would be a win for both the Busterman family and me.
This wasn’t such a bad gamble because, in the first place, it didn’t have to be Annelier specifically who needed to bear a child of my own blood.
“I wonder if it will go well…”
“If things don’t go well, I’ll have Mia be the one to give birth.”
However, if you don’t live up to expectations, then you lose.
We’ll go down together.
Then, even if another woman ends up giving birth to an heir, the Busterman would have no choice but to accept it.
It should be said, though, that the official princess was Annelier of the Busterman family.
In this country, continuing the king’s blood was of utmost priority, so it wasn’t a problem for anyone if the king were to end up having concubines or partners other than the queen.
You won’t have to worry about status or origin if you’re the king’s concubine.
It wasn’t even uncommon for the king to have commoners as concubines.
And if one were to have noble blood running through them, then there might even be a chance of a concubine becoming second only to the queen.
Mia’s social status was low, but she was from a noble family, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
“If you’re saying it’s fine as long as you have children, then that’s true. However, Reinhardt, if you were to have a concubine or a second wife right from the beginning, then it’ll be hard to steer the ship. Be careful. Also, although I think she’s going to lay low, for now, that girl has been throwing herself in front of various men, so be careful about that too.”
“If it ends up not being my child, then you’ll know right away, so it should be fine.”
“How is that a solution?”
Vint’s face became distorted.
“You know, I, I’m worried about you. I thought a serious girl would be a good match for the serious Reinhardt.”
“If it’s seriousness, then it’s Mia. She has a strong desire to pursue her goals but is also superficially ostentatious and patient. She’s working hard to achieve her goals.”
“Reinhardt, are you being serious?”
“I’m serious.”
In other words, she was a very ambitious person.
There were some people who were deceived by Mia’s appearance, and there were even some men who were around her as playmates. However, if Mia were aiming to make herself divisible to those around her, then I think I probably wouldn’t be a bad match.
For me, personally, Mia wasn’t a bad partner if she’d let me divide myself among the two of them.
“Rather than tormenting an unambitious mediocre noble lady until she couldn’t recover, I’d rather go for someone who was resilient and could endure her purpose. Mia also wants that, and if I can just train her well, then she will be a good partner. I don’t know about Annelier yet, but she’s got high spirits, so I’d expect her to be able to endure it if she thinks of it as one of her duties as a queen.”
“Seriously… Hmmm… I wonder if you’re being serious right now.”
Vint, who was groaning, suddenly raised his head and peered outside.
The voices of the trainees could be heard from the yard in front of the dormitories, but perhaps Vint wasn’t listening to them.
Spirits like Vint were different from humans, both in vision and hearing.
“Ah… Those two.”
It would be foolish of me to ask which two people he was referring to.
But so soon?
“What should we do? It’s in the women’s dormitory, so Reinhardt can’t intervene, but I can if I wanted to. Do you want me to go?”
“No, thanks… But can you tell me what they’re talking about?”
“Alright.”
Vint nodded, went to the window, and opened it wide.
